Mechanical Technician (Fitter) – Field Maintenance & Modification (Rail)
Location: Ridderkerk, South Holland, Netherlands (base) + various project sites
Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: €3,500–€4,000 gross per month (depending on experience) + allowances
Are you a mechanical fitter who gets energy from variety and challenge? In this role you’ll work on trains, trams and metros across different projects and locations. From damage repairs and maintenance to full refurbishments—you are the hands-on expert who keeps rail vehicles in top condition.
The role
As a Field Maintenance & Modification Technician (Mechanical) you work project-based in workshops and on customer sites. The current main focus is a large tram refurbishment project, where vehicles arrive, are fully disassembled, overhauled, and rebuilt. Your technical skills and clear communication make a real difference on-site.
Key responsibilities

Perform mechanical maintenance on rail vehicles (trains, trams, metros)

Carry out refurbishments and major damage repairs

Perform tasks such as grinding, sanding, welding, bonding, sealing, painting and pop riveting

Complete mechanical work in the workshop or on-site at customer locations

Work in small teams with colleagues and/or together with customer teams
Requirements

MBO Level 3 diploma (Mechatronics, Aircraft Engineering, Automotive, or similar)

Several years of experience as a mechanical fitter/technician

Driving licence B

Good command of Dutch (spoken and written)

Independent, responsible, and quality/safety minded

Enjoys variety, changing conditions, and hands-on technical work
Nice to have (plus)

Experience with paint systems

Experience with bonding/sealing, preferably with an EAB (European Adhesive Bonder) certificate
